Internet speeds in Da Nang

This is the nomad dealbreaker question. The answer is good:

• Home fibre: 100–500 Mbps symmetric is standard in most modern apartments. Providers: Viettel, VNPT, FPT — all reliable.
• Café WiFi: Most cafés in An Thuong offer 50–150 Mbps. A small number have dedicated gigabit lines for remote workers.
• Coworking spaces: 200–1,000 Mbps dedicated lines are standard. Redundant connections in better spaces.
• Mobile data: Viettel and Vietnamobile 4G is fast and cheap. A local SIM with unlimited data costs $5–10/month.

Best areas for digital nomads

An Thuong — The nomad hub

The default starting point for most nomads. Compact streets packed with cafés, coworking spaces, gyms, western food and convenient stores. My Khe beach is a 5-minute walk. Slightly pricier than other areas but the ease and density of amenities make it worth it, especially early on.

My Khe / Bac My An — Calm and beachy

Directly adjacent to An Thuong, slightly calmer. Good apartments, quieter streets, still walking distance to cafés and the beach. Popular with nomads who want to settle in properly for 3+ months.

Hai Chau / Han River — Urban central

The city centre. More Vietnamese daily life, good connectivity, convenient for everything urban. Less "nomad bubble" feeling — which some people actively prefer.

Best cafés to work from in Da Nang

Da Nang has excellent café culture. The best work-friendly spots in An Thuong have:

• Fast, dedicated WiFi (ask for the password and speedtest)
• Plenty of power outlets
• Air conditioning
• Comfortable seating for multi-hour sessions
• Quiet enough for calls (or dedicated call pods)

Visa options for nomads

The 90-day e-visa is the most popular choice. It's available to citizens of most Western countries, costs ~$25, and can be applied for online in minutes. It's been renewable in-country since 2023, which removed the need for border runs for most people.

Building community as a nomad in Da Nang

Da Nang's nomad scene is mature and self-sustaining. The main entry points:

• Facebook groups: "Expats in Da Nang City" (50k+ members) and "Da Nang Digital Nomads" — post a hello, ask questions, meet people fast.
• Coworking events: Enouvo, The Hive and Toong all host weekly mixers and professional events.
• Meetup.com: Regular language exchanges, hiking groups and skill shares.
• Sports: Beach volleyball, surfing, running clubs and football leagues run year-round.

Da Nang is the kind of city where arriving alone and being isolated after 2 weeks is genuinely difficult — the community infrastructure makes connection easy.

What Da Nang is not great for

• Nightlife variety — it exists but it's not Bangkok or HCMC
• Extreme budget travel — $500/month is possible but uncomfortable
• Cultural immersion away from tourists — you need to make the effort
• Cold weather — if you're escaping heat, look north or at altitude
